Abstract：

This Yearbook has been published by National Science Council (NSC) of the Executive Yuan annually since 1983. In 2005, Science & Technology Policy Research and Information Center (STPI) of the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL) started to take over the publishing work. This Yearbook provides a comprehensive view of Taiwan’s policies and measures in science and technology (S&T) development, and research achievements in S&T from the industrial, governmental and academic sectors in the country. It serves as a reference for the government to know S&T development trend in the country and to formulate S&T policies for the future. Moreover, it helps the individuals and organizations within and outside the country to understand Taiwan’s S&T development. English version of this Yearbook is released six months after the Chinese version to facilitate international exchanges of S&T information.

The main contents are composed of “Special Reports” and three parts. “Special Reports” are topics about the important national S&T policy issues or remarkable achievements. The first part gives an overview of S&T policy, the performance indicators in the governmental funding and manpower investments, and R&D achievements. The second and third parts describe the S&T activities and achievements in the dimensions of “Basic Research” and “Applied Research and Technology Development”.
